NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bengaluru stayed in the Indian Premier League playoff hunt after winning their fourth consecutive match on Thursday.
In the 58th match of the IPL 2024, RCB, whose batting has never been an issue in the season, scored 241 in their allotted 20 overs, led by the Orange Cap holder Virat Kohli, who scored 92 off 47 balls, and Rajat Patidar's rapid 55 off 23 balls.

In return, Punjab Kings kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were bundled out for 181, losing the match by 60 runs, which showed that RCB bowlers are getting back in form at a crucial juncture.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are aiming to replicate their 2016 success as they are yet again experiencing a rollercoaster season. RCB had a shaky start to their 2016 season as well, securing victory in their opening match against SRH but then enduring defeat in five out of their next six matches. Similarly, in IPL 2024, RCB began with a loss to CSK but bounced back with a victory against PBKS, only to then suffer six consecutive defeats.

The sixth defeat by just one run against KKR served as a turning point, revitalizing the team and instilling a renewed sense of belief. Since then, they've been on an unstoppable momentum, forging ahead with confidence and determination.
In the 2016 season, Kohli led the team's batting performance as he was the leading run-scorer in the season and went on to create an IPL record for most runs in a season, scoring 973 runs. This season too, Kohli is again leading his batting side and is currently the IPL 2024 Orange Cap holder with 634 runs in 12 innings.

RCB is backing up Virat Kohli's words about playing for self-respect by dominating their last three matches, securing victories with large margins to improve their net run rate. In the IPL 2024 points table They currently sit in 7th place with 5 wins in 12 matches, totalling 10 points and a net run rate of +0.217.
How can RCB still qualify?
Despite being the only team to win four consecutive matches at this part of the IPL 2024 season, RCB's qualification is not solely dependent on their performance. Even if RCB clinches victories in their next two matches, they'll reach 14 points. However, considering all teams except MI and PBKS still have the potential to reach 14 points, qualification for IPL 2024 will heavily hinge on net run rate.
For Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to secure qualification after win over PBKS:
1. RCB must clinch victories in their remaining two matches with substantial margins against DC and CSK.
2. Both Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) must defeat Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
3. Mumbai Indians (MI) need to triumph over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
4. In addition, either Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) or Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) should emerge victorious against GT, or if GT manages a win, it should be by a smaller margin.
For Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to secure IPL 2024 playoff spot after win over DC:
1. If RCB vs CSK turns into a knockout match, RCB needs to secure a victory by either:
- Winning by 18 runs.
- Chasing the target within 18.1 overs.
This is necessary to surpass CSK's Net Run Rate (NRR).
2. For this scenario to be feasible, LSG (Lucknow Super Giants) needs to lose one of their games. This loss could be against either DC (Delhi Capitals) or MI (Mumbai Indians).
How can RCB and CSK qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs?
- If SRH (Sunrisers Hyderabad) loses both of their matches then both CSK and RCB have a chance to qualify.
- RCB's qualification hinges on winning their last match, regardless of their Net Run Rate.
